Doctors' appointments are not necessary for morning surgeries. These open access surgeries run on a 'first come, first served' basis. You may have a significant wait if you turn up towards the end of surgery or wish to see a particular doctor. Evening surgeries are by appointment only, with a limited number of emergency appointments available each day. Evening surgeries are primarily for those who wish to attend surgery after work and these patients will be given priority. For some clinics, the optician, dentist, chiropodist and physiotherapist, an appointment is required.
You can express a preference of practitioner for any consultation. If you make an appointment, please keep it or cancel it in good time so that we can offer it to another patient.
Patients can ask for a consultation for a general check-up if they are:
Aged 16-74 and have not had a consultation in the last three years.
Aged 75 or over and have not had a consultation within the last year. Where appropriate, this consultation can take place in your home.
This is available between 10.30-11.15am weekdays for non-emergencies. If a doctor is unavailable, a message will be taken and your call will be returned as soon as possible.
These are for the elderly, infirm and those who are genuinely too ill to come to surgery. Please telephone before 10.30am if you require a visit. Routine calls to patients’ homes are made in the more remote areas: Dentdale and Garsdale each Monday; Swaledale every Friday.
We work hard to maintain an acceptable level of service. If you have a complaint, please make your problem known to us as soon as possible via your doctor or the practice manager. We will advise you on how to proceed. Alternatively, you can contact the complaints manager at North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust (01423 815150), or their Patient Advice and Liaison Service (0845 601 8412).
Constructive suggestions and criticisms are always welcome
