Introduction
Welcome
to the Central Dales Practice. In alphabetical order, this publication gives you
information to help you make the best use of our services.
The practice undertakes
the training of medical students.
Accidents
Initial
assessment and treatment of casualties is available at either surgery or at the
scene, between 8.30am - 6.00pm. The nearest hospital Accident and Emergency department
is 37 miles away at Friarage Hospital, Northallerton (01609 779911). For serious
injuries, please call 999 for an ambulance without delay. Also see section titled
Minor Injuries.
Ambulance
Transport
If
you cannot arrange your own transport for hospital appointments, please contact
your surgery at least four days in advance to arrange an ambulance.
Confidentiality
No detail about any patient will be released to any person, company or organisation outside the NHS without the patient’s written consent. You have the right to access any information we hold about you, except in circumstances where your doctor judges that to reveal such information would be harmful to you. Please ask at reception or via the telephone if you require access.
Contraception And Family Planning
Advice is available from all the doctors. There is no designated clinic. Coils can be fitted by appointment.
Dentist
NHS Dentistry is available most Fridays at Hawes Surgery. Please call 0844 7368 548 for an appointment. Leyburn Dental Practice runs surgeries at Hawes every day except Fridays. Call 01969 622132 for an appointment. This is a private dental practice that may be able to provide NHS dental care to under 18s.
Doctors' Rota
Copies are available from your surgery and at your medicine delivery point. Changes (holidays/sickness etc) are posted on the practice website.
Freedom of Information Act
A list of documents published by the practice in accordance with this Act is displayed at each surgery.

Violent
Patients
The
practice operates a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse and violence from patients.
Should any incident involving violence towards any member of staff, healthcare
provider or any another person occur on the practice premises, or at any place
where treatment is provided, the police will be called immediately. Violent patients
will be removed from the practice list and no further treatment will be provided.
In these circumstances, patients should contact North Yorkshire and York
Primary Care Trust, which provides special facilities for the treatment of potentially
violent patients.
